App Growth Lead (Individual Contributor) at I Am Sober

About Us

I Am Sober is the most popular sobriety app in the world. We help millions of people quit alcohol, drugs, and other harmful habits through daily accountability, milestone tracking, and a supportive community. We have 169,000+ reviews with a 4.9-star average, and we're the top results for nearly every relevant search term in our category.

We are bootstrapped and profitable. Our growth to date has been entirely organic — word of mouth, App Store search, and a product our users love.

Now we're looking for someone to help us grow to the next level.

The Role

We're hiring an App Growth Lead to experiment and determine which channels can best help us scale — without relying on paid user acquisition.

This is a hands-on role. You'll be running experiments firsthand, not managing agencies or directing a team. You'll test channels, measure results, double down on what works, and kill what doesn't.

What You'll Do

  • Test and scale organic growth channels. Social (TikTok, Instagram, YouTube), content marketing, creator partnerships, web SEO, community, referrals. Your job is to figure out what works and drive results.
  • Run lean experiments. We're not going to give you a $500K budget. You'll get enough to test ideas quickly and cheaply, then earn more budget by proving results.
  • Own the analytics. Set up tracking, measure what's working, build dashboards, and report on progress. You'll know cost per install, conversion rates, and payback periods for every channel you touch.
  • Create content yourself (at least initially). Especially for social, we need someone willing to get scrappy — film a TikTok, write a blog post, send outreach emails to creators. You can hire help later, but you will do the work yourself first.
  • Identify and manage creator partnerships. Find people in the recovery/sober-curious space who could authentically promote the app. Structure deals that work with our unit economics.
  • Build our web presence. We're an app-first company, but there's an opportunity to capture search traffic for queries like "how to stop drinking" and funnel it to the app.

What You Won't Do

  • Run paid acquisition. Our LTV doesn't support it. If your background is mostly paid social or performance marketing, this isn't the right role.
  • Build a team (yet). This is an individual contributor role. If you're successful, you might build a team later — but for now, we need a player, not a coach.
  • Manage agencies. We've found that agencies don't work well for early-stage growth experimentation. We need someone in the weeds.

About You

3–6 years of experience in growth marketing, ideally at startups or small companies where you did the work yourself.

You've personally tested and scaled at least one organic channel. Social, SEO, content, partnerships, community — we don't care which, but you need to have gotten your hands dirty.

You understand unit economics. You can explain why the lower LTV per user that comes with an app like ours constrains your channel options and how you'd think about growth given that constraint.

You're analytical. You're comfortable in spreadsheets, can set up event tracking, and make decisions based on data.

You're scrappy and resourceful. You don't need a big budget or a team to get things done. You figure it out.

You communicate clearly. You possess strong writing skills, can present your findings, and make a case for where to invest.

What We Offer

  • Salary: $90,000 – $130,000 depending on experience.
  • Remote (US time zones only).
  • Meaningful work. You'll help millions of people stay sober. The impact is real.
  • Autonomy. We'll give you a problem to solve, not a task list to execute.
  • A profitable, sustainable company. No VC pressure, no burn rate anxiety. We're building for the long term.

Interview Process

  1. Application review — send your resume and a short note on why this role interests you.
  2. Intro call (30 min) — mutual fit check.
  3. Growth case study / Q&A — You'll talk with our team about a project you've run in the past and answer questions.
  4. Final conversation — culture, expectations, questions.

How to Apply

Send us your resume to jobs@iamsoberapp.com along with:

  • A brief note (a few paragraphs is fine) answering: "If you joined I Am Sober, what's the first growth channel you'd test and why?"
  • 1–3 examples of content work you've done (posts, reels, landing pages, etc.).
  • A short write-up describing a past experiment and what you learned.

We read every application. No recruiters, please.
