Enabling biometrics

Enabling biometrics for Android will vary depending on whether or not your device supports them and what version of Android you are running. Here are some common devices below.

Samsung

Fingerprint

To register your fingerprint to your Galaxy device:

  1. Open your device's Settings app Settings app.
  2. Go to Lock screen and security, then Fingerprint Scanner.
  3. Follow the on-screen steps to setup a new fingerprint.

Face Recognition

To use Face Recognition:

  1. Open your device's Settings app Settings app.
  2. Go to Lock Screen Security.
  3. Tap Face Recognition, then use the unlock method you set up to activate the feature.

LG or Motorola

Fingerprint

  1. Open your device's Settings app Settings app.
  2. Tap Lock screen & security.
  3. Tap Select screen lock.
  4. In the Biometrics section, tap Fingerprints.
  5. Follow the on-screen steps to setup a new fingerprint.

Face Recognition

  1. Open your device's Settings app Settings app.
  2. Tap Lock screen & security.
  3. Tap Select screen lock.
  4. Tap Face Unlock.
  5. Follow the on-screen steps.

Google Pixel or Nexus

Fingerprint

  1. Open your device's Settings app Settings app.
  2. Tap Security & location.
  3. Tap Pixel Imprint or Nexus Imprint.
  4. Follow the on-screen steps to setup a new fingerprint.

Face Recognition

To use Face Recognition:

  1. Open your device's Settings app Settings app.
  2. Go to Security & location, then SmartLock.
  3. Enter the current unlock method (e.g., PIN, pattern, etc.).
  4. Tap Trusted face, then follow the prompts.

Huawei

Fingerprint

  1. Open your device's Settings app Settings app.
  2. Tap Fingerprint ID.
  3. Follow the on-screen steps to setup a new fingerprint.

Face Recognition

To use Face Recognition:

  1. Open your device's Settings app Settings app.
  2. Tap Security Privacy.
  3. Tap Face recognition.
  4. Follow the on-screen steps.
