If you are still unable to sign in, your account might have been locked or banned. You can reach out to us at support@iamsober.com for clarification.
This depends on if you are a Sober Plus subscriber or not.

If you are a subscriber, we keep a secured backup of your data stored in the cloud so that you can restore in case you ever lose your device.

If you are not a subscriber, we only store your email and profile photo, and your community related data (like stories, comments, etc).

You can read more about this in our Privacy Policy.
  • From the app, tap the little person icon in the top right corner to go to Settings.
  • Tap on the account section.
  • Scroll to the bottom and tap on the option to Delete account.
  • Follow the steps presented.
  • Note that your account will be permanently deleted and can not be recovered.
When you deleted your account, all of your data associated with it was also deleted. You are welcome to come back to the app, you will just need to set up a new account and start over.
We want you to get the support you need but we also want you to be safe from exposure to mature content. Giving out personal information (including your age) anywhere online is risky.

In the App Store, our app is labeled with the 17+ age rating.

When you start using the app, we ask you to check a box stating that you are 18 or over.

We will remove any account that, in its own words, makes clear that they do not meet our age requirement that you agreed to when you set up the app.

Addictions

  • Scroll to the bottom of the main Progress screen until you get to the addiction options section.
  • If you want to change your start date to right now, you can tap on the Reset icon.
  • To change it to a previous date, tap on Settings with the little gear icon.
  • Tap on your start date or start time to change them.
  • You can also adjust your start date by tapping dates on the Calendar on the main Progress screen.
  • From the main Progress screen, tap the menu icon in the top left corner.
  • In the drawer that slides out, underneath your current addiction you'll see an option to add another.
  • Sober Plus subscribers can add up to 10 addiction trackers.

  • In the drawer that slides out, underneath your current addiction you'll see an option to Edit List.
  • On the next screen, tap the Edit button in the top right corner.
  • Tap the red delete icon that appears next to the addiction you want to delete.
When you are on the screen for choosing which addiction you want to add, you should see two options in the top-right corner for "List" and "Custom". Tapping on "Custom" will allow you to type in the name of whatever you want.

To get your addiction in our main list, reach out to us at support@iamsober.com.

Community

We have automated tools that help us prevent inappropriate content from showing up in our community. Occasionally it will classify things incorrectly and mark things for review that are totally fine. We review these regularly and will eventually approve them. If you don't see your post show up after some time, you can reach out to us at support@iamsober.com.
We are constantly adding more supported languages. If your language is not currently supported, let us know at support@iamsober.com.
Blocking someone will make it so that you don't see any more of their content, and they will no longer be able to see any of your content as well. To block them:

  • Tap on their profile to go to their profile page.
  • In the top right corner, tap the little more icon with three dots.
  • This will bring up a menu that will give you the option to block that user.
  • If you ever decide to unblock someone, you can find a list of blocked users in your account screen under settings.
We have tools in place that help us review and moderate content posted to our community. However, we don't catch everything so we also rely on you to help with this task.

Besides blocking someone, you can also flag their stories and comments by tapping on the flag icons next to each piece of content.

If you continue to notice someone posting inappropriate, abusive, or toxic material, please let us know right away at support@iamsober.com, and we will investigate further.
You can post a story by visiting a milestone feed inside in the community tab. Here you should see a big blue plus icon in the bottom right corner. Tapping this will bring up the screen to let you post a story.

Some things to note:

  • You can only post stories to milestones that you've reached.
  • You can only post stories to addictions that you are tracking.
  • Please make sure to read through the community guidelines before posting. Failing to do this can get your story flagged.
Depending on what addiction category you are in, images may not be allowed for some milestones.

If this doesn't apply to you then it may have something to do with photo permissions. Go to your Settings app and search for I Am Sober and ensure you have granted permission for both the camera and your photos.

Another reason you might be having issues is that the image you are trying to upload could be too large. One way you can get around this is by taking a screenshot of the photo you're trying to upload. Then upload the screenshot as it will end up having a smaller file size.

Groups

Groups are invite-only. This means that you'll either need to create your own and invite others - or you'll need to have someone who already owns a group send you an invite.

In order to join a group, you will need to have an I Am Sober account. In order to create a group, you will need to be a Sober Plus subscriber.
There is no limit to how many groups you can join. As a Sober Plus subscriber, you can create one group. If you're interested in creating more groups, please contact support@iamsober.com.
Right now, groups can have a maximum of 25 members. If you're interested in creating a larger group, please contact support@iamsober.com.
Only group owners can invite someone to become a member of their group. To invite someone, you will need to know their I Am Sober username. Once invited, the person will receive a notification inviting them to join your group. Group invites can be accepted or ignored.
Joining a group means you are getting sober together. Most app data will still be private to you, but a few events will be shared within your group. This includes:

  • Your addictions
  • Your sober start dates
  • When you reach new milestones
  • When you make a daily pledge
  • Start date resets (You can opt to not share these if you prefer)
No. However, your group will be put into a read-only state. You'll still be able to view existing messages and group members, but will not be able to add anything until the subscription is active again.
Yes, we can add another group administrator for you if you would like. To do this, please reach out to us at support@iamsober.com.

Building and maintaining an app like I Am Sober takes a lot of time and effort. We're not some government agency or mega-corporation. We're a small team that has spent many years of our lives building this app. We first released I Am Sober as a simple counter app back in 2014!

Most of the app free to use as you can always opt out of the payment screen. Sober Plus is completely optional. It gives you access to premium features which lets us continue to pay our bills and fund development of the app.

We've always wanted to keep the price of Sober Plus reasonable, but we're also happy to let you try Sober Plus for free - just email us at support@iamsober.com.
